Marvin – State of the Art Tier 3 Cluster

A big tier 3 HPC cluster was purchased by the University of Bonn in October 2022. We are happy to announce that MEGWARE has delivered a real leading edge high performance system in the summer of 2023, ending up on place 423 of the TOP500 list of the world's most powerful supercomputers. Check out the technical details in the following section. Our steps toward full operability:

  • Starting from October 11th 2023: Closed testing phases for exclusively experienced users.
  • October 20th: Inauguration ceremony and celebration including talks by official guests from science and politics, symposium.
  • March 11, 2024: Opening to users of the University of Bonn and valued cooperating partners.

Marvin is now open to all (HPC-experienced) scientists at the University of Bonn, including the University Hospital Bonn (Universitätsklinikum, UKB) and their external project partners. To register, please scroll down to Access. The application procedure is similar the one for Bonna.

Check the photos further below, showing the works on the building infrastructure, the assembly of Marvin itself, as well as the final state of the cluster.

Access

Use the following form to:

  • Register for HPC use
  • Prolong your access for another 6 months (students) or 12 months (employees).
  • Extend your Marvin acount, i.e. add another group share to it. What are group shares?

You do not need to specify which you want to do, the form is identical in all cases.

When applying, you will be asked to agree to abiding by the interim regulations for using our HPC systems as well as the HRZ regulations (both links in German). Registration is not possible without agreeing to them.

Already have access and want to connect to Marvin? Read the guide in our wiki.
