Linux Introduction Course (summer 2024)

In this course, you will learn about the following topics:

- Using the command line
- The ideas behind concepts like users, files, processes and permissions
- Navigating the Linux directory structure
- Handling text and other files from the console
- The vim text editor
- A brief introduction automating tasks with shell scripting

Although this course is open to everyone, it is primarily geared towards cluster users. That means that neither Graphical User Interfaces nor topics that require root access (e.g. installation, administration) are covered. All topics covered are distro-independent.

No prior knowledge is necessary. It is also not necessary to have cluster access beforehand.

Registration happens via eCampus. The course may be held more than once, depending on presenter availability and number of registrations.

IMPORTANT: after registering, you MUST JOIN ONE OF THE GROUPS (currently there is only one).
