Linux Introduction Course
Need to use Linux for your PhD/M.Sc./SHK work or privately? Are you using Bonna, Bender or another supercomputer? Never used Linux before? Then this is the course for you.
The HPC Team of the HRZ at Uni Bonn invites you to our new
Linux Introduction Course
The course will take place on February 8 and 9, from 16:30-20:00. It will be held online via Zoom. It will be held in English.
Registration
Registration happens via eCampus. Simply join this course like you would any other eCampus course. The maximum number of participants is 12, if more people register, the course will be repeated.
Topics
In this one-day course (or rather two half-days) you will learn about the following topics:
- Using the command line
- The ideas behind concepts like users, files, processes and permissions
- Navigating the Linux directory structure
- Handling text and other files from the console
- The vim text editor
- A brief introduction automating tasks with shell scripting
Target Audience and Prerequisites
Although this course is open to everyone, it is primarily geared towards cluster users. That means that neither Graphical User Interfaces nor topics that require root access (e.g. installation, administration) are covered. All topics covered are distro-independent.
No prior knowledge is necessary. It is also not necessary to have cluster access beforehand.
